CSP 70 Asian Americans in Film

This course highlights the work of Asian Americans in Hollywood and on the independent film scene from the Silent Era to the present. “Firsts” for Asian Americans in film, documentaries of historical significance as well as movies that display the making and breaking of stereotypes of Asians, structure the choice of films. The films deal mainly with Asians of East Asian heritage, however, the final research paper will allow students to explore an ethnic group of their choice. As a second semester course in the Cultural Studies Program, the development and exercise of critical thinking and writing skills will be central to all class assignments along with work on the final research paper.
