CSP 60 Justice Performed

This course addresses the fluid boundary between law and performance. We will unpack how cultural products interrupt the legal archive, and we will interrogate how theater provides an alternative site for the performance of justice, one that may satisfy needs that go unmet in state and federal courts. We will study trial transcripts as legal and cultural documents, and we will look at their dramatizations, putting these plays into conversation with contemporary theater, performance, and legal criticism while also thinking about how our own needs and impressions of justice have been, or can be, staged in and through performance.
