SPAN 343 Spanish Pragmatics

This course will explore the area of Pragmatics with a particular focus on Spanish. Pragmatics is the study of meaning in context. The course will allow students to reflect about the Spanish language from a different perspective that is not centered on grammar alone. We will discuss the relationship between language use and meaning i.e. meaning that derives from language use in context. We will explore what speakers do with language why they do it and how they do it. Students will use this information to inform their own use of Spanish.
