IDS 431 DEI Inquiry II

This course is the second course in a two-course sequence (IDS 430 and IDS 431) that provides an opportunity for students to create an individualized plan of study focused on a selected diverse population or diversity area of interest with the supervision of the course instructor. During the two-course sequence, students will successfully plan, develop and implement a project. Together the student and faculty develop learning outcomes, identify readings and resources, and design learning activities that facilitate the completion of the project, including an in-depth research paper as one of the assessments for this first course.

This course is the second course in a two-course sequence (IDS 430 and IDS 431) that provides an opportunity for students to create and actuate an individualized product or artifact focused on creating a positive change for diverse population or diversity area of interest with the supervision of the course instructor. In IDS 430, students conceptualize and create (or begin to create) the product, and, in this class, students continue their work which will culminate in sharing their project with the community. Students will also engage in the metacognitive cycle of setting goals, checking progress, reflecting on progress, and making plans for the next iteration as they work with their chosen community in order to enhance their learning and improve their work for the next cycle of working towards positive change in diverse communities. Topics addressed will include, but are not limited to, power, intersectionality, inequality, marginality, and identity.
