Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Summarize the historical background of corrections in America. Describe the goals and functions of correctional institutions. Differentiate types of jails and prisons and their functions. Define and explain the role and implications of prison subculture. Identify and interpret constitutional provisions and federal, state and local policies relevant to corrections. Critically evaluate the nexus between race, ethnicity, and corrections. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior.
