APR 201 Electric Motors

Introduces students to various aspects of electric motors including types and applications, factors governing proper selection, effective protection and troubleshooting. Additional topics include hand bending of conduit, correct strapping and proper wire selection. Emphasis is on effective troubleshooting, including human relations and customer service during maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Understand and explain detailed concepts relating to motor theory. Properly select and size motors for specific applications. Demonstrate effective and efficient skills in motor testing and troubleshooting. Effectively utilize multimeters and cap analyzers for testing capacitors. Effectively use megohmeter megger to test quality of wire insulation. Demonstrate entry level skill at hand bending conduit.
