VCD 256 The Moving Image

Investigates the language and craft of motion media through screenings, readings, and production exercises. Students learn to plan, shoot, and edit video using the same professional-quality video cameras and editing software employed in the video industry. Students will be introduced to storyboards and sequential storytelling. Additional emphasis will be given to capturing and editing sound, fully exploring its impact on video. This course focuses on video as an art medium and a communication channel, less on traditional narrative film techniques. Assignments build in complexity from camera exercises to group video productions. Technical skills learned in VCD 125 will be expanded. This course includes studio and lecture. Students will need to purchase supplies/materials for this course.
