RELS 277 History of the End of the World

This course will survey ancient near eastern beliefs and practices concerning the cataclysmic end of the world.  Studying Jewish, Christian, and Islamic religious movements, we will pay attention to how their interpretations of scripture shaped their eschatological expectations and actions.  The course will conclude with a survey of modern religious movements similarly guided by end-of-the-world predictions.
