2018-2019 Catalog

DWA 102 International Organizations

A survey of the role of international organizations in global politics. The focus will be on an in-depth study of the three themes by which the United Nations has defined itself: security, human rights, and development. Within the rubric of those three themes we will look at activities by the U.N. family of agencies, other international organizations, and NGOs, on issues that include the management of violent conflict, human rights, and how these issues have been mainstreamed into the work of international organizations and approaches to economic underdevelopment that seek to alleviate both poverty and insecurity.
