HIST 306 The Emergence of Modern America: The United States 1919-1945

This course will cover the domestic history of the U.S. from 1919 to 1945 and the social, cultural, and political changes accompanying America's evolution into a modern society. Themes include: developments in work, leisure, and consumption; impact of depression and war on the organization of the public and private sectors; persistence of traditional values such as individualism and the success ethos in shaping response to change; and the diversity of America's people and American experience.
