FREN 363 Representations of French Colonial History

The course is an exploration of various literary and cinematic representations of the French colonial history and its legacy in the Maghreb and West Africa. It examines visual and textual narratives of war clashes collaboration and post-independence from the last decades of the twentieth-century. Films and literary texts to include La bataille d'Alger (Pontecorvo) Le camp de Thiaroye (Sembene) Les femmes d'Alger dans leur appartement (Djebar).
