CMA 241 Medical Assistant Clinical Block I

Prepares students to work as a basic level clinical assistant in the outpatient medical setting and provides preparation to perform CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) waived tests in a physician's office laboratory. Emphasizes quality control and requires appropriate use of safety precautions. Prepare students to perform advanced math skills for clinical procedures.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify personal safety precautions as identified by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). Demonstrate methods of obtaining vital signs on adults and children. Demonstrate patient instruction according to their needs to promote health maintenance and prevention. Perform CLIA waived tests. Distinguish between normal and abnormal test results. Obtain specimens for microbiological testing. Demonstrate critical thinking skills when verifying dosage calculations.
