PSY 219 Intro To Abnormal Psychology

An introduction to the study of psychological disorders, including issues of diagnosis and treatment. Topics include: models of abnormality; overview of major disorders, including diagnostic considerations; current research on treatment effectiveness; and the impact of psychological disorders on society and its legal system. Recommended: College-level reading and writing skills.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe major facts and theories from the domain of abnormal psychology. Recognize and articulate the interplay between social, psychological and biological forces as it applies to abnormal psychology. Apply relevant phenomena from abnormal psychology to everyday relationships and situations. Combine and synthesize concepts and theories from abnormal psychology to draw reasonable conclusions, develop intelligent skepticism, and critically analyze information.
