Administration of Justice - Associate of Arts (Major Code - AJS)

The Administration of Justice Associate of Arts degree is de-signed to prepare the student for a wide variety of criminal justice career fields or for transfer into university degree programs. To ensure seamless university transfer, students must develop their specific program of study in close coordination with a Cochise College advisor.

Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to do the following:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and analyze the history, philosophy, ethics, constitutional parameters, organization, and terminology of the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and analyze the philosophy of legal sanctions and their historical development, from common law to modern American criminal law.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and analyze deviance and society's role in defining behavior.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and examine the study of theories, procedures, and methods of operation of public police with emphasis on discretionary powers.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and examine the study of the history and development of correctional theories and institutions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and analyze major court holdings, procedural requirements that stem from these holdings, and their effect on daily operations of the criminal justice system.

It is highly recommended that students complete a criminal justice-related internship in addition to the 64-unit degree, namely AJS 224 or a related SLE special topics course.
