Degree Audit
Degree Works is an on-line tool that helps you track your own progress towards graduation, showing important information such as official major, GPA, which general requirements and major/minor requirements you have met, which requirements are in progress, and which requirements you still need to complete. It also allows you to use a “What If” feature to determine what requirements in other majors/minors you have met, and which ones you would still need. This is helpful whether you are considering a major switch or are interested in adding an additional major or minor. Degree Works is designed to follow requirements outlined in the Undergraduate Bulletin, so should always be used with that catalog. You need to consult the appropriate Bulletin when using Degree Works both to ensure its accuracy and clarify what it’s telling you.
To access Degree Works, follow these simple steps:
- Go to the CUNY Portal.
- First time users click on Register for a New Account; otherwise enter your username and password.
- Click on Student Advisement Degree Audit.
Important Tips:
- Make sure your Degree Works audit indicates the major you want to pursue.
- Pay attention to how many credits you have earned (you need 120 total to graduate), and remember that “Credits Applied” on the audit refers not simply to completed courses, but to courses in progress and courses you have registered for in an upcoming term.
- To check the accuracy of your audit when reviewing your major requirements, make sure the major section of the audit shows the correct academic year in which you declared your major (for example, Academic Year: 2014-2015), and consult the major requirements in that year’s Undergraduate Bulletin (take a picture of the requirements with your phone, so you can access them easily). Degree Works exists to enforce the Bulletin, and if they don’t match, believe the Bulletin, and consult a major advisor as soon as possible.
- Special note to Transfer students: If you have earned an A.S. or A.A. degree, and it is posted on your John Jay transcript, you do not need any Common Core or Flexible Core general education requirements, even if Degree Works indicates that you do.
