SPE 222 Diversity in American Speech and Language

Our language and communication strategies are often influenced by racial, religious, ethnic, sexual and other identities. We will examine these differences from a social science perspective (including sociolinguistic and ethnographic analyses) and from a humanities perspective (including historical and rhetorical analyses). We will survey forms of communication such as public speaking and the mass media. No speeches required.
