SOC 203 Marriage and the Family

This course examines one of the greatest social institutions: the family. We will study various family structures and functions across cultures; relationships of the family to other social institutions; the significance of the family in the process of socialization; contemporary alternatives to the traditional family; and the adaptation of the family to the changing environment. Attention will also be given to the impact of the changing economy upon the modern family as well as other problems facing today.
