PLG 109 Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate

This course prepares the paralegal to assist attorneys with financial, estate and health-care planning. Topics covered include intestate succession, formal requirements of a will, codicils, living wills, basic types of trusts, health-care proxies, grounds for contesting wills and drafting of simple wills. By examining New York's Estates, Powers & Trusts Law and the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act, along with relevant forms, students will learn how to assist in pre-probate procedures, probate court proceedings and estate distribution.
