HIS 100 History of Minorities in the U.S.

This course deals with the interaction of various immigrant groups. The emphasis is on the extent to which each has achieved mainstream acculturation, through a historical chronology of problems encountered and solutions devised, if any. The contemporary situation of various groups is discussed with a view toward problems that need future resolution. Students are encouraged to examine their own cultural values as the window through which they observe and judge new people, experiences, and behaviors. Sections of this course will be offered to non-native English speakers at the intermediate or higher level.
