ENG 231 African-American Literature I

A critical study of the works of several contemporary African-American writers, including Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, Amiri Baraka (LeRoi Jones), Malcolm X, Alice Walker and Toni Morrison. The course will focus on analyzing major themes and styles and consider the development of this genre in the context of the historical, political and sociological issues. Fulfills literature requirement for AA degree.
