ANR 201 Cultural Anthropology

This course introduces students to the central concepts, major research methods, and new trends in cultural anthropology. Adopting a cross-cultural perspective, this course examines the values, behavior and social relationships associated with a wide range of marriage and kinship systems, religions, and economic and political institutions. It also explores the relationship between culture and the individual as well as the dynamic forces involved in social change. By studying both human diversity and universal values, it attempts to foster students' intercultural understanding, to increase their global awareness, and to stimulate concern about the issues of cultural change and continuity in their own society. Honors sections will do further in-depth research and presentations as well as a research paper.
