CTSJ 201 The Phallus & The Siren: Gender Portrayals in Pop Culture

This course examines intersectional gender representations in film, television, literature, memes, and other forms of contemporary popular culture. Students will learn theories of media influence and analyze the impact of pop culture in shaping cultural values and norms, primarily in the United States. Students will also examine how different identity groups are portrayed, and the effect of media under-representations, stereotypes, tropes, and other miss-representations on their social value and lived experiences.
