DWA 231 Gender and International Relations

This course explores how assumptions of masculinity and femininity have informed foundational concepts and theories in the field of International Relations, the determination of what is considered to be worthy of investigation and what qualifies as appropriate methods of investigation, and who is (and is not) recognized as a subject of international politics. This course applies a gender lens to practical concerns in the field, including: political and economic development, human rights, and international security. It also engages the tensions associated with theorizing gender and IR, given the fluidity and intersectionality of identity.
