CTSJ 214 Girls and Society

This course explores the subject formation of girls in various societies throughout the world. Both theoretically and conceptually, the course will interrogate who counts as a “girl” and the coherence of girls as a social construction in various contexts.  Through an examination of ideologies, policies, media, religion, institutional practices, schooling, and the social practices of girls themselves, the course will situate girls within complex sociocultural worlds. The course will ask questions of global girl power in relation to their social positionalities and material lives.
