PSY 266 Understanding Addiction through Research

This course reviews the relevant research findings on addictive disorders that provide a scientific understanding of addiction. Topics will include patterns of use and abuse of addictive substances, the course of the addictive process, the acute and chronic effects of psychoactive drugs, and research on the outcome of substance abuse treatment and the effectiveness of specific interventions including self-help groups.

This course is a part of the Addiction Studies Program, which enables students to fulfill the educational requirements for the Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).
