EDEC 403 Student Teaching Practicum in Early Childhood I

Structured and supervised fourth-level, full time classroom and community-based experiences designed to prepare candidates as a professional direct caregiver of infant/toddler and Qualified Staff Member (QSM) for preschool/kindergarten children in state funded programs. Hosting school(s) and state funded community-based agencies serve as practicum sites. The supervising faculty, in collaboration with the host supervisor, assesses the candidate’s performance as a direct caregiver of infant/toddler and QSM for preschool/kindergarten children, and makes recommendations for the Student Teaching Practicum in Early Childhood II. The ECE program coordinator is in charge of practicum placement in collaboration with school and community partners. Practicum Hours: A total of 200 practicum hours - Practicum placement will be scheduled four to five times a week (Monday through Friday), 8:00AM-04:00PM, in a preschool and/or infant/toddler setting. NOTE: Candidate must pass the practicum requirements in order to pass the course. CT law requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check for the field experiences in this class. Fingerprinting must be completed prior to the beginning of class.

Prerequisite

EDEC 305, EDEC 306, EDEC 307, EDEC 308 and EDT 302. Candidates must have completed Infant/Toddler Mental Health Module 3. Taken concurrently with EDT 402.
