College of Technology

Mission

The mission of the College of Technology is to provide an experiential learning environment that fosters collaboration, engagement, innovation, and personal growth.  Our programs blend real-world experiences with practical applications preparing students for premier career opportunities and advancement within the information technology field.

Overview

The diversity of activities and occupations within technology professions establishes the foundation for formal training.  Constant evolution of technology requires curriculum that is concurrent with industry.

Wilmington University’s College of Technology offers relevant programs for students who plan to work in fields of communication, computer science, cybersecurity, digital forensics, information technology, game development, animation and 3D, video and film production, and web or graphic design.  Programs include courses that employ an appropriate balance of theory and practice.  While preparing students to become competent, competitive, adaptive, and able to work well in teams, our programs include the latest tools and concepts. The importance of personal design and communication skills and of the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with emerging technologies and information resources is reflected in the various programs through emphasis on “core skills," all of which are fully integrated into practical, hands-on assignments.  This combination of “core skills” and “durable skills” (communication skills, critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, etc.) provides students with a solid foundation for future success.

The United States Department of Labor statistics reports a demand for Information Technology professionals across all industry segments with an emphasis on cybersecurity. Information Technology related careers include project leader/manager, software developer, systems analyst, database specialist, e-commerce analyst, network specialist, cybersecurity specialist, information security analyst, and information assurance and digital forensics specialist, among many others.

The College of Technology’s Center for Cybersecurity Education offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s programs in Cybersecurity.  Additionally, the Cybersecurity B.S. program has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education through academic year 2028 by the National Security Agency.

The undergraduate degree program in Information Systems Management prepares students to be IT leaders who can manage complex projects from inception to completion. Courses teach skills including analyzing business processes and designing an information technology strategy for continuous improvement.

The Computer Science degree provides comprehensive technical knowledge with leading-edge systems development tools and programming software, and artificial intelligence.

Digital Media related careers include the fields of video game design, graphic design, animation, film, media programming, and web design.  Through hands-on experience and use of leading-edge technologies, students will develop knowledge and functional skills to succeed in their chosen field.

Communication majors may consider careers in public relations, social media, technical communication, and electronic publishing, among others.  Students will learn effective, strategic communication, branding, and storytelling from leading practitioners.

In addition to degree programs, the College of Technology offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate certificates, many of which may be embedded in the program curriculum.   Undergraduate students in many College of Technology programs may have the opportunity to accelerate into their next degree by incorporating master's level coursework through the Dual Credit Advantage program.  Students will work with their academic advisor to plan the best option for their career goals.
