SPAN 302 Introduction to Medieval and Golden Age Spanish Literature and Culture

An introduction to Spanish Peninsular literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. This course examines the cross-cultural elements (Arab, Jewish, French, Italian, Trans-Atlantic and others) that have influence Spanish literature across the centuries. Readings include Mozarabic poetry, the Cantar de Mio Cid, Medieval narratives, La Celestina, Renaissance poetry, selections of Don Quijote, and Golden Age dramas. The class also incorporates representative examples of art and films.
