SPAN 211 Spanish for Heritage Speakers

This course is designed for students who have spoken some Spanish in the home and are able to understand spoken Spanish well.  It aims to develop and improve students' conceptual understanding of the grammatical structures of the Spanish language.  Coursework emphasizes the practice of formal written and oral Spanish as well as the improvement of vocabulary with the goal of strengthening students’ fluency in academic and professional contexts.  Principal readings consist of literary texts (e.g. short stories, literary essays, and drama) in order to prepare students for reading and writing in upper-level Spanish courses.
