KINE 201 Sport in American Society

This course examines the social and cultural factors that influence sport and physical activity. The positive and negative consequences of the way sport is organized in American society will be discussed. We will explore the unifying power of sport, as well as how sport serves to reproduce many of the inequalities present in our society. Topics include: violence, substance abuse, media, gender, race/ethnicity, and social class, and their roles within sport and physical activity.
