BIO 310 Museum Science

Introduction to the principles and practice of museology and the functioning of a research natural history museum. Emphasis will be on the development of the "museum conscience" and attendant curatorial skills, through extensive training as a curatorial assistant.  Students will make use of the bird, mammal, and fish collections of the Moore Laboratory of Zoology (the world's largest collections of Mexican birds and Southern California Rocky Reef fishes) and the Cosman Shell Collection at Occidental College. May be repeated for credit. Permission of instructor required.
