PAD 759 Public Oversight of Policing

The course recognizes the academic and professional interest in police oversight and the role oversight plays in redefining the relationship between police and the communities they serve. The course prepares students to evaluate and monitor police conduct and policing performance from an oversight perspective. It examines the authority of the police, different types of police misconduct and corruption, the consequences of that misconduct and various efforts to control police behavior through institutional and non-institutional forms of oversight.
